Deck hull separation repair

I have a trailex trailer and have a habit of ratcheting my boat down for the 90mph tow. Because of this it caused deck hull separation that Lasers are known for. I have had practice fixing this on a previous boat. I have waited to post this for some time to make sure that im not giving bad advice. I have tested this repair by sailing my boat in at least 4 regattas, many times out practicing and a day where it blew 50+ mph wind gust. My boat simply does not leak. As a matter a fact when I remove the drain plug, it blows air back at me. My boat seems to be air tight. If you notice in the picture above it shows the crack along the edge where the deck meets the hull in the shape of a u. This crack is worst than the picture shows, I could pull the two apart and stick my fingers between the hull and deck. The separation was approximately two feet long.
I started off using a wide roll of masking tape. I taped the out side of the lip then folded the tape over to form a outside masking tape wall with no stickyness. Then did the same for the inner lip. This forms a nice moat for my west system epoxy to flow through.
Then I mixed up a batch of west system epoxy and added micro balloons to make a consistency that was thick yet would still seep into the crack of space between the deck and hull. I filled the moat up pretty full.
After I added the west system epoxy i used three clamps I purchased at home depot and clamped the center clamp in the middle where the separation seemed to be the center. Then placed clamps on either side to keep the deck and hull tight.
Here is a closer look of the configuration after the west system had time to dry overnight.

Once it was dry I was able to peel the tape from the sides and it leaves a razor sharp edge that ready for sanding. I actually had a boat I did this repair to previously and went sailing with the sharp edge and it cut my whole hand up during some roll tacks. I highly reccomend just sanding it back down smooth.

After sanding the epoxy down so that it is flush with the original rail make sure there arent any tiny cracks still exposed. If so go ahead and mix another batch and fill these tiny pin holes as well. I went sailing after my repair and my boat leaked like crazy. I brought it back home mixed up another batch and sealed every little crack on the lip of the boat. Now the boat doesnt ever leak and is quick in all wind conditions.
